November 2018: CLN Volume 2 includes a number of cases and papers which are of relevance to the Children's Court jurisdiction.

Memorandum of Understanding to facilitate the expedition of Working with Children Checks in care proceedings

July 2018: The Children's Court of NSW, the Office of the Children's Guardian and the Department of Family and Community Services have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding to facilitate the expedition of Working with Children Checks in care proceedings.

Attorney General and NSW Treasurer announce funding for Youth Koori Court

May 2018: Attorney General Mark Speakman and Treasurer Dominic Perrottet have announced funding for the Youth Koori Court pilot, which has been operating at Parramatta Children's Court since February 2015. The funding will allow the Youth Koori Court to be expanded to Surry Hills Children's Court. More information on the announcement can be found here.

Youth Koori Court evaluation released

May 2018: On 7 May 2018, Western Sydney University released an evaluation of the Youth Koori Court pilot, which has been operating at Parramatta Children's Court since February 2015. The evaluation highlights positive social outcomes for Aboriginal young people as a result of the Action and Support Plans which are created through the culturally appropriate court process, including improved cultural connection, education and employment, accommodation and health outcomes.

New Practice Note 12: Criminal Proceedings in the Children's Court

May 2018: To coincide with the Early Appropriate Guilty Plea reforms, the President has issued a new Practice Note 12: Criminal Proceedings in the Children's Court, which can be found under Practice and Procedure.

Opening of Surry Hills Children's Court in 2018

December 2017: The new Surry Hills Children's Court will open on 15 January 2018. Surry Hills Children's Court is a 4-court complex, with state of the art Audio-Visual Link (AVL) facilities, 2 conciliation rooms, witness protection rooms as well as space for support services and agencies that support the Children's Court. Surry Hills Children's Court is located at 66-78 Albion St, Surry Hills. Contact details for Surry Hill's Children's Court can be found under 'Contact Us'.

Changes approved to Children's Court listing arrangements in January 2018

December 2017: The President has approved changes to Children’s Court listing arrangements from January 2018. These changes include listing arrangements for the new Surry Hills Children’s Court, changes to the Illawarra Children’s Court circuit which will now incorporate Moss Vale and Goulburn, changes to the Central Coast Children’s Court circuit and a minor change to the Western care and protection circuit.
